On August 13, 2026, West Coast Engineering Co., Ltd. (WCE), represented by its Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) business unit, took part in the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding under the concept “Tech to Track”, held at Bangkok Grand Central Station.
The event was organized by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC), in collaboration with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the Rail Transportation Technology Research Institute, and was witnessed by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Ministers overseeing the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Transport. The initiative aims to allocate over 300 million baht in research funding over five years, support more than 150 Thai enterprises, and raise the local content ratio in the rail industry to 70%.
WCE’s Contribution
At the event, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), NSTDA, showcased its “Innovative Freight Bogie Manufacturing” project, developed in partnership with WCE and supported by PMUC research funding.
The project designed a Y25 bogie frame and brake assembly, applying core technologies including:
- High-strength steel selection
- Modern welded assembly techniques
- Advanced CAD & CAE engineering design
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)
- Ride comfort evaluation
The bogie prototype passed a static load test at 80 tons in accordance with EN 13749, as well as field trials both under no-load conditions (approx. 140 km round trip) and under a full load of 67.8 tons (approx. 200 km round trip). The prototype achieved a local content ratio of approximately 60%.
During the ceremony, MTEC presented a scale model of the Y25 freight bogie prototype to the two Deputy Prime Ministers, symbolizing the transition of Thai research and technology into real-world application.
This collaboration reinforces WCE’s role in advancing Thailand’s rail industry through homegrown engineering knowledge, reducing dependence on foreign technology, and creating new business opportunities for Thai enterprises.
We engineer your success.
